so I have a maple tree and its tap root is sticking out along with the seed but the sprout is growing greatly but I added more soil to the top so the roots and seed are not sticking out would this kill the seedling?
Well, it depends... if it is a seeling (a fresh little sprout straight from a seed), then covering it will probably kill it; If it is a sprout though, growing from the root, then it will survive. The reason is that if it is a sprout from the root then it will have the strength from the tree to power through the soil. A seedling will most likely not have the reserves.
This also depends on the species of tree too. An acorn, for example, will have a solid reserve of nutrients, while a maple will not have much of a reserve.
